Toni Carey and Ashley Hicks are the founders of Black Girls RUN! , a non-profit organization dedicated to tackling obesity in the African-American community. Carey and Hicks started Black Girls RUN! in 2009 to encourage African-American women to live more fit and healthy lifestyles by running, which they hope will in turn lower the percentage rate of African-American women who are overweight. In 2011, the founders were able to launch 60 additional programs in 30 states with 52,860 participants. Today, Carey and Hicks have created a BGR active-wear clothing line and offer training and fitness for women.
Vision 2020 recognizes Carey and Hicks for their role as leaders dedicated to making social change.
