Our National Ally, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), is playing a leading role in pushing Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act. Yesterday, AAUW advocates stood next to Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-MD) and other female Senators and advocacy groups to rally for the bill’s passage. According to the New York Times, Senator Harry Reid (D-NV), the Democratic majority leader, is expected to file a motion today to bring the bill up for a vote. If passed, the Paycheck Fairness Act, which failed in a procedural vote in 2010, will close loopholes in the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and bar all retaliation against workers who share information about their wages with co-workers.
