The California NOW chapter filed complaints against the restaurant chain on Dec. 16. According to the complaint, NOW alleges that Hooters is an “adult entertainment” establishment, yet it does offer amenities to children, like high chairs, booster seats, a kids’ menu and Hooters apparel in kids’ sizes, including a T-shirt that reads “Future Hooters Girl.”
Patricia Bellasalma, NOW’s California president, cited a statistic from Hooters’ website that said, “10 percent of the parties we serve have children in them.” Bellasalma says that serving minors violates both local and state law and goes on to say the chain itself is violating federal law, according to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle.
Hooters representatives have not released a statement.
What type of message does it send to children who are being taken to establishments like Hooters by their parents?
