Getting to Know the Vision 2020 National Delegates

Each Friday, Vision 2020 will feature news about the National Delegates. This week, get to know Irene Herold, of New Hampshire, and Christina Cruz, of Vermont.

Herold is the dean of the Mason Library at Keene State College. She is a member of the AAUW and was featured in Keene State College’s campus news. She is the immediate past chair of the College Libraries Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association.

Cruz was most recently the athletic director of Southern Vermont College. She was featured in The North Adams Transcript. In the article, Cruz explains her devotion and excitement about attending the October conference in Philadelphia: “I think we [women] have made great strides, and I’d be remiss to say we haven’t gone anywhere. Still, I’m disappointed we haven’t seen a woman in the White House, and we’ve only seen a few female governors of our 50 states.”

Before becoming a coach, Cruz was a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Rowing Team. She is the author of the recently published book, “Gender Games: Why Women Coaches are Losing the Field,” on gender issues that persist in athletics and how they influence female coaches’ sense of self and their decisions to stay in or leave coaching.
