Vision 2020: An American Conversation About Women and Leadership™ is a national project of Drexel University College of Medicine’s Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership. The project seeks to pick up where the suffragists left off and promote gender equality and women’s leadership over the next 10 years. To take on this task, Vision 2020 has enlisted the help of 102 National Delegates—two extraordinary women chosen from each state, including Washington, D.C.—and 14 Visionary Delegates—women who have leadership skills and connections on a national level—to begin a national dialogue that will lead to a “Declaration of Equality,” which is an action agenda each delegate will implement in her home state.
Vision 2020’s first public event is set for October 21-22, 2010. The two-day American Conversation about Women and Leadership will be held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. There will be eight panel discussions on the topics of Arts & Culture; Business, Law & Finance; Communications & Media; Education; Politics & Government; Health; Philanthropy, Faith & Volunteerism; and Science, Technology & Engineering.
Vision 2020 Delegates will also be aided by Ambassadors. The Ambassadors play a key role by participating in the panel discussions, making recommendations and supporting the delegates in implementing the Declaration of Equality.
National Allies are a big part of Vision 2020 as well. There are 32 National Allies, which are national associations and professional organizations that endorse Vision 2020’s mission and participate in shaping the Vision 2020 action agenda through delegate selection nomination and through their commitment to the “Declaration of Equality.”
Vision 2020 has also been guided by National Advisors, highly esteemed leaders who have paved the way for future generations of women to excel as leaders and achieve equality.
The presenting sponsor of Vision 2020 is The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company. Penn Mutual has a strong commitment to women, and has started the “Worth for Women” campaign, which embraces the vastly underserved women’s market with educational initiatives and tools that advocate women take charge of their financial futures.
